9/27/06: Astros Win 7th In A Row – Let’s Do It Again

I am not believing the end of this year. Winning 7 straight games. Getting FINALLY over .500!!!!
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Offseason – wasn’t that the name of that book?

Tonight, it’s
Jason Hirsh, RHP vs Shawn Chacon, RHP

Jason this year: 3-4 in 8 GS:10 HR, 21 BB, 28 K over 41.2 IP – 5.83 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and a .255 BAA
4 good games, 2 ok but short games, 1 horrible terrible game and last time, lasted only 4.2 innings, gavbe up 4 homers and 4 ER.
vs Pitt: 1 game, went 7 innings, 5 hits, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 ER

Shawn Chacon, RHP
– he’s the guy Roy got his first ever homer off last month. Now we know who to send up for a RH pinch hitter
this year: 7-6 in 19 GS, 2 relief: 20 HR, 58 BB, 53 K over 96.1 IP – 6.17 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and a .283 BAA
– NOT good numbers, duh
@ PNC: 1-5 in 7 GS: 5 HR, 20 BB, 20 K ove 35.2 IP – 6.06 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a .270 BAA
vs Hou: 1-4 in 5 GS, 2 in relief, 1 save: 7 HR, 14 BB, 29 K over 28.1 IP – 6.67 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and a .274BAA

The thing I worry about is that Jason isn’t used to pitching this long. Usually, his season is over by now. So in addition to being a rookie, and in addition to pitching in a high pressure must-win game, and in addition to the fact that he had a lousy outing last week, he still threw 85 pitches and it’s almost October and he’s going out there again. So I hope he can keep it together, because the Pirates have some guys who can hit.
So we’re all rooting for him to keep his composure, go six innings and leave with a lead. If we can get that, the bullpen is just going to have to make it stand up. And the hitters are going to have to keep scoring because Jason’s not going to shut the Bucs out.
I can hardly wait for game time….

    O man, o man…
St. Louis won, and it may be too little, too late.
But that isn’t stopping me from enjoying this end.
