Roy was SUPPOSED to face Chris Carpenter, but he went on the DL with a sore shoulder. So it’s Jason Marquis instead.
Well, we get to experience the new, smaller, easier to hit HRs in New Busch Stadium. Maybe I’m not understanding things here, but I do NOT understand why build a smaller stadium when you pretty much sell out the older, bigger one. Why not make MORE money on the extra 10,000 tickets a year you sell? Why is a “more intimate” stadium better? I guess so that Uncle Albert can hit more out…
Which reminds me – you think that some day that he gonna get the ol Barry Bonds IBB treatment with the game on the line? OR is Phil too mach to walk anyone besides the #8 guy to face the pitcher – which, by the way, he better not do with Marquis…
And I really really really wanna see Uncle face the new, improved Brad Lidge… yeh.
Roy Oswalt, RHP vs Jason Marquis, RHP
this year: 5-3 in 11 GS (8 QS): 6 HR, 15 BB, 48 K over 75 IP with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP and a .273 BAA
Had a GREAT game last time out – 2 hits, no BB and 7 K, but balked in a run and the bullpen lost it.
vs St. Louis: 6-4 in 15 GS: 10 HR, 19 BB, 85 K over 99.1 IP with a 3.62 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a .270 BAA
- he beat Jason Marquis earlier this year

Jason Marquis, RHP
Roy last faced him 5/3 and won. He hasn’t had a real good year, even though he’s 6-4. He DOES have Uncle Albert, who got his self a habit of making HIS pitchers win…
career: 48 – 40 in 114 GS and 57 in relief with 1 save, 3 CG and 1 SO: 106 HR, 301 BB and 481 K over 781 IP with a 4.23 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a .264 BAA
5.54 K/ 9 IP
3.46 BB/ 9 IP
1.22 HR/ 9 IP
this year: 6 – 4 in 10 GS: 11 HR, 24 BB, 25 K over 65 IP with a 5.12 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a .252 BAA
6.2 IP/ GS
note K rate is down – 3.46/9, BB rate is the same, and HR rate is up a little to 1.53/ 9 IP
I hear tell that the new Busch is a hitters park – lessee
@ New Busch: 3-3 in 6 GS: 10 HR, 15 BB, 12 K over 37.2 IP with a 5.73 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a .277 BAA
- well, kinda small sample size, but 10/11 homers and less than half of the Ks – hmmmmmmmm
vs Hou: 5-3 in 10 GS with 1 CG: 7 HR, 21 BB, 44 K over 67.1 IP with a 5.08 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a .316 BAA

The presence of Scott Rolen is protecting Pujols right now, just as Jeff Kent protected Bonds for a while.
But the Padres did the “unintentional” IBB yesterday and it worked, as Rolen ground into an inning ending DP in the sixth.
Dear Phil,
Good move to get Roy out of there…I was afraid we might actually win.

gawd, it really stinks being an astros fan right now.
if things are going to suck, i guess it’s better for them to suck now than in august and september. i hope we have the same turnaround we’ve had the last two years…
