Well, my friends and loyal readers (hi Mama!!!), I decided to do what Famous Columnists do and recycle some of my favorite Dog tales whilst trying to think of something positive to say about this team, who has so far picked Great Finds offn the scrap heap of crappy waived AAAA guys – Brian Bixler, another crappy utility infielder and Craig Tatum, another crappy catcher. Not even worth writing up. NO idea who they plan to pick up to replace Clint Barmes, who is a free agent and will not be offered a contract, as he will cost more than minimum wage – translation from Ed Wade’s comment about gee we would like him back, but…
Anyway, for more cheery stories:

Lisa,
You’re a regular Gaylord Perry with your husband aren’t you. So where’s the sandpaper, Vaseline and spit…with all your dirty chick tricks ?!
Yoenis Cespedes anyone?
eric
if you are a woman and gonna live with a man, you best have your dirty chick tricks polished up and ready to use cuz you gonna need em. my mama told me – they’re biggern us, but we’re smartern them. vaseline AND sandpaper won’t get us real too far, you know what i’m sayin…
bruce,
that guys is gonna cost money, so the astros are certainly not interested. it is gonna be a long LONG time before any good free agent is gonna be interested in playing for the astros
Off topic…sort of.
Just saw the latest Richard Justice vitriol against Lance Berkman after LB spoke out against Astros moving to the AL. Justice should be reported for “vile hatemail”.
He assigns questionable motives of all sorts to Lancer, and ends by saying he wont speak to him if Lance shows up at their old hang out.
I’m sure Lance is sobbing over the rebuff.
I have never seen such low class journalism. How does management tolerate that kind of vituperation and false accusations from one of their “stars”?
Really, he sounds like a jilted teen-age girl with all his spitefulness.
Becky has her hate-ees and now I have mine.
z.
zagger- Where in the heck have you been??? Yes I read the article Richard Justice wrote, and I went off on him like a pissed off mother at
Wal mart. BUT……
he just writes those type of things to p!ss us off, while he laughs his butt off!! Becky:)
Walmart Mom: I am so laughing.
For the most part I’m a faithful lurker. Here almost every day.
Currently I have only one “sacred cow” in baseball, and RJ just pissed all over him…or so it seemed. But now that you put the article in that light, it makes sense, and it sure got my goat.
I’m getting excited about tryouts for the Sugarland Skeeters. A good friend of my family is trying out as a LHP.
If the Astros go AL, I’m headed for Sugarland. The level of baseball will be about the same.
zagger,
that’s just richard being richard – and teasing people. he really thinks very highly of lance – and has said so many times. and has said that lance is without question one of the best human beings he has ever known.
which sounds like truth.
Justice used to hang out around Weaver, so you can’t really blame him.

I actually got to see the three on the left play and the guy on the right manage, albeit in the minors or when the “Big Club” would come to town once a year for an exhibition game.
Just tell Richard “…in the immortal words of George Bamberger…”
Bruce: I looked up George Bamberger on Wikipedia and there were these two quotes:
“A guy who cheats in a friendly game of cards is a cheater. A pro who throws a spitball to support his family is a competitor.”
“A triple play will take you out of an inning real quick-like.”
Is there another one you are thinking of? Cause I can’t make either one of these two fit the reference to RJ’s article on LB. Or maybe that’s the point…Geo. Bamberger made statements apropos of nothing…much like Richard Justice.
Lisa: We’d have to be in the third circle of Hell before Lance Berkman would try to make a public mockery of Richard Justice. The guy has got no class. Even if he knows a quality individual when he meets one.
Off-off topic, but a noble cause. If you have/know a youngster who might be interested in this pitching clinic put on at Lamar High School and conducted by Jeff Niemann, pass this along.
This weekend the Lamar Baseball family and Lamar High School will host the Rudy Bocanegra Fall Classic. Rudy is a former all-district pitcher for Lamar (class of 2011) who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
To get the tournament started, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jeff Niemann will be conducting a pitching clinic from 4:00 – 5:00pm Friday at the Lamar Field. The clinic is $50, with all of the money going to Rudy’s medical expenses, too. Jeff went 11-7 for the Rays last season, his fourth in the Major Leagues. He formerly pitched for Lamar High School and Rice University, so he’s one of us.
100% of proceeds (including team entry fees, concessions, donations, etc.) will go directly toward Rudy’s medical expenses.
There will be 15 great teams playing in this tournament!!
Zagger, I think Bamberger has another quote out there, and it is not for a family blog….
Richard uses it about once a year… here is the latest example…

Are you kidding? Go to ANY other city and ask them if not making the playoffs for 9 straight years and having a 6-10 record results in the coach (who is really the coach, off coord, GM) getting another year??
I went out of town for the holidays and just being out of this inbred city for a week gave me some perspective and there is just NO WAY Kubes and his lame cronies should be back.
Bottom line, you’ve got to admit that he’s been given everything he’s asked for and although he might be able to get a team that could make the playoffs, there is NO WAY you can say that he can create a perennial winning franchise — take a step back and take a good look and it is just not there.
[Listen, son, I've worked in most other cities, so don't tell me about life in most other cities. I've worked in them or interviewed in them or recently filled out an application to work in them. If there's one thing I know, it's the United States of America. I'm not going to be lecture by some guy like you who thinks of Texarkana as an exotic destination. When you want to know the pulse of the USA, ask me. Otherwise, in the immortal words of the great George Bamberger...--Richard]
