TWO homers by Carlos Lee – in the same game and a TWO run shot to tie it.
TWO stupid IBB in the 12th inning to load the bases and lose the game ( how many times have I noted that Millsie-poo has a fetish for the IBB when it isn’t a hitter in front of a pitcher or a Pujols-like slugger???!!! TOO many times!!!)
TWO guys left RISP with 2 out TWICE
Wandy hit a double
Two double plays turned
Too many innings
- I suppose I should say that Wandy wasn’t exactly at his best and really shouldn’t have started the 6th at all – FOUR walks. And I should say that for ONCE, Wiltonnie Lopezzie stranded his inherited runners. And that the hitters made Matt Mediocre Garza look like Roy Halliday/Clayton Kershaw.
But you knew that.
Well, tomorrow should be a historic day – the Astros first 100 loss season.
It’s Henry Sosa vs Rodrigo Lopez (I would say that the Cubs sure nuff are scraping the bottom of the barrel, but that might could jinx our 100th loss.) At least we won’t have to face Carlos Zambrano, who the Cubs are paying 17 mill a year to not play. It’s a great life, if you can get it

Actually, Carlos is playing quite well lately. I would NOT have wanted to be in Johnson’s shoes after this game. Becky:)
Actually because there is absolutely no pressure, nothing to play for and the pitchers having been throwing him mostly FAT FBs down the middle for the last 2 months.
No walks and seven strikeouts. No plate discipline. I had to listen on radio and cannot tell you how many times it was mentiomed that Garza was having an easy time. Mills is a Bonehead. I bet he was a great Bench coach but he has no business being a major league manager. And this one inning for every reliever is dumb. What happens when they get in a situation where they do not have the luxury of the expanded roster, and he has no one to go to in an extra inning game. He relies on that boneheaded Lefty Righty crap too much. How will he ever learn what a certain guy can do in a situation unless he leaves him in to find out. And the excuses that he uses are getting more lame. The season is in the crapper already, see what you got for next year. Afraud its gonna be a long six to seven years before this team is any good. And they will be doormats for the Yankees, Rangers and Red Sox. At least Carlos Lee will have his career extended. Go DBacks!
Dark era in the Astros history
becky,
i wouldn’t iether – and he was right, it WAS a foul ball
sceptor,

charlie,
the decline of the astros is all on drayton mclane and his deciding to refusal to pay to get good prospects and then his decision to play GM hikmself so he could get the glory that gerry hunsicker was getting.
and having yes-men like tal smith and purpura. and incompetents like ed wade. and cecil cooper. and brad mills – appeasing buddy boy, getting cheap
BAH
it’s going to be a long LONG time before this team has a chance to “drive for 75″ (pirates slogan for 2 decades – don’t lose by much)
Charlie — that’s IF the relief pitchers get a whole inning. I address that on my blog — that he used three relief pitchers to get two outs. Cedeno, Del Rosario and Wright each threw 7 pitches or less, which is why he had to throw Fernando Rodriguez out there for 37 pitches over 2.1 innings. I’m so sick of him having these situational guys that go out and throw a couple of pitches and then call it a night.
The guys on 610 Radio say Crane has agreed to move to the A.L. West and that Drayton is giving him a huge discount on the sale price. I can believe the first one but not the second one. You hearing anything, Lisa?
IMHO, forcing Hunsicker to leave was Drayton’s biggest mistake. It’s no accident that the Devil Rays have become contenders in a very strong AL East when Gerry Hunsicker came aboard.
Sosa did pretty well today. Just no support from the batters as usual.
And why is Corporan still catching ? He should have been ticketed for Triple A or Double A a long ago. He’s easily the worst catcher on the Astros team.
The Astros do have a decent nucleus for next year. Happ may have finally found his confidence. Sosa is a real find. Altuve, Paredes, Martinez, Schaefer (well MAYBE) Castro (if he can get healthy) is something to look forward to next year. Although I’d like to see Wandy Rodriguez to stay as he’s been my favorite Astros player but if he can get traded to a contending team, I’m all for it. It’d be nice to see Wandy get a WS ring before his career ends.
The pitching staff..once you get past Sosa and to a lesser degree and that’s assuming Rodriguez gets shipped off is a mess, especially the starting rotation.
As for the rumor about Drayton, Crane and the move to AL West. God no..not the AL.
And Bud Norris is actually having a pretty good year – once you get past his win-loss record. On a contending team, he might have a shot at 15-20 wins. He does walk quite a bit but he has more K’s than hits given up so if Wandy is gone, he’s easily Houston’s best remaining pitcher.
And no mean feat keeping his ERA under 4.00 on such a bad Astros team – just like Wandy especially with lead gloves like Lee and Barmes on the infield. And another lead glove in Jason Michaels in the OF. And another with Corporan at catcher. That’s just too many defensive liabilities in the lineup.
