8/22/11: Bogusevic Homers Again As Astros Resume Losing Ways

This entry is gonna be short tonight (kidz!!!!!) and I got home late and the score was already 6-0 because the ol WB had thrown 32 pitches allowing SIX freaking runs including a 2 run double to the pitcher.

I’m more than disgusted because the Astros just waived byby to any chance of getting rid of him and now it’s gonna be Wandy, unfortunately.

It’s too bad that Bogu didn’t hit that homer with 2 on 2 out in the bottom of the second. And that Clank didn’t swing at a slider in the dirt with 2 on 2 out in the 4th. Another year of watching Clank waste space on a team which should be only playing young guys.

But I digress – Bogu went 3 fer 4 with a 10 pitch walk and he should not be benched for the likes of Jason Worthless Michaels – actually, today, he managed to get on base by being HBP which was pretty good for him – and he scored a run on Downs pinch 3 run homer.

Let’s say that Schafer was less than impressive with bat or glove. Yes, I know, small sample size and he’s gonna get the rest of the year to sink or swim.

Aneury pitched 2 great innings – got an out, gave up 2 walks in the 8th, so in comes David Carpenter who Francoes poor Aneury’s runners, then manages to load up the bases before getting a swinging K for the final out.

This team is BAD at stranding runners. Both relievers letting other pitchers runners score and hitters at leaving too many MOB. Tonight, we had fifteen hits – FIFTEEN – and scored only 5 runs.

sigh

Tomorrow night, Bud Norris faces righty Alex White, age 23, who has been on the DL since the middle of May with a sore middle finger. He was Cleveland’s 1st round pick in 09 – they traded him for Ubaldo jiminez a few weeks back. So we’ll have to see what we get. At least Jason Michaels won’t be playing RF.

If Shafer was the “crown Jewel” of the Bourn trade…….we got screwed. I’m hoping it was just the first night jitters, but I was not impressed. Bogusevic and Martinez
both had a pretty nice game. Brett Myers…….well you know him better than we do. I told my husband they HAD to leave him in, because you can’t burn your whole pen on one game. Bud goes tomorrow, hopefully we will have better luck.:) :)

Shafer looked pretty bad grounding into a DP on a pitcher’s pitch on a 2-0 count. Especially since the guys after him got hits.

Bogu’s HR was a no-doubter to the opposite field. Pretty impressive.

Pretty much all the rookies in the lineup are tearing it up, except Corporan.

The team is a lot more fun to watch than earlier this year, even if the wins still aren’t coming very often.

Is there a believable reason not to send down a pitcher who repeatedly loses the game in the first inning with shockingly poor command and pitch selection? Who does this without reaping the repercussions?

Despite the agony of watching that pitching misery unfold, it is fun and exciting to see our young guns step into the batters box. There is anticipation that they can/will change the outcome of the game instead of the “automatic out” feeling of 2 months ago.

  4. Becky says:

zagger- They can’t send Myers “down”. He has to agree to do it, and he would be out of options anyway. So the answer is, no the won’t. Although I see exactly where you are coming from, guys like Happ haven’t been in the MLB as long as Myers. What did you think of the “new” center fielder??? I wasn’t impressed.
Mills has NOT revealed who he’s gonna use for tomorrows game, that’s why they
HAD to leave Myers in to pitch. Burning your entire pen on one game is a recipe for disaster! I’m looking for a good game for Bud tonight! Becky:) :) :) :) :)

we’re stuck with the ol WB just like we’re stuck with clank – money. no one understands the concept of sunk cost

after WB gave up 6 runs the game was already lost – i have no idea why he bothered to pull him after 5 seeing as how he had finally got a grip (hahaha)

i was not impressed with the new CF neither, but hey, we’re gonna be watching him for the next 5 weeks unless millsie-poo is planning to platoon him with bourgeois – and if he DOESN’T, he should be explaining why he is platooning better players like bogu and shuck

  6. zagger says:

Becky: Are you saying that Myers cannot be sent to OKC without his permission? I am so shocked. Is this in his contract? If this is correct, how about the end of the bench then?

If only you and I could co-manage this team for 2 weeks!!! We’d let Lisa be the pitching coach. Guess where he’d be then. I amuse myself.

Makes me remember all the comments from Philly fans when they learned of the trade with Hou. They were chortling. Derisive. Predicting exactly what has happened.

Shafer’s performance was underwhelming; in fact, downright disappointing…given all the hype. But, unlike the pitcher, he didn’t actually throw the game away. I’m willing to hold off on a thumbs down. Like you say, may have been opening night jitters.

Overall, I think our team has evolved into a fun team to watch with low expectations and lots of good surprises.

Just a heads up, Rockies have claimed Wandy off waivers and Astros are supposedly in talks with them now.

it’s in the CBA – if someone has 3 (or is it 4) years of major league playing time, he can’t be sent to the minors without his permission.

i wouldn’t mind benching him or clank – but it’s not gonna happen because of the $$$ – you notice how VERY few guys who make big bux are benched/sent to the pen

  9. Steve says:

The Giants have no problem sending Zito and his $127M to the pen — and also leaving him off the playoff roster…

giants got more sense. we insisted on playing bagwell in the 05 playoffs/series even though he could hardly do anything because he had “earned” it.
