JB (Jack) Shuck is one of Fast Eddie’s picks (thank goodness for him, hunh?) in 2008, round 6. He’s a small lefty, like Bourn, supposedly 5-11 (which means somewheres between 5-81/2 and 5-10) He’s a center fielder – insurance in case Jordan Schafer continues to suck as much in the Houston Organization as he did in all levels of the Braves Organization after A-ball. By the way, a few people I know who are Braves fans wrote and told me that Schafer hurt his wrist after A-ball and it is possible that he has just needed years to heal. Youneverknow.
Back to Shuck – he’s a high average hitter with medium walks, low K and VERY low GIDP who doesn’t really hit for power. Ignoring Lancaster (you can’t hit THERE, you got a problem) he hit .298/.372/.360/.732 last year at AA – he was promoted after 101 games/398 AB.
He didn’t do so well last year at AAA, but this year hit .302/.401/.370/.775 in 391 PA over 101 games: 100 H/ 10 doubles/ 7 triples. He’s fast, but not a real too particular good base stealer – 19 SB: 11 CS: he’s played CF all year and has made 5 errors. He had 54 BB: 29 K and 6 GIDP.
Let’s hope he’s in the lineup tonight – I’d sure like to see what he can do, seeing as how it is pretty obvious that no WAY is Bogusevic going to get a chance to play full time (he’s one of Purpura’s picks – can’t let HIM succeed. Bud Norris is bad enough)

I’d just like to point out that Schafer was busted for PEDs the year after his one good season in A ball. He never failed a drug test cause it was HGH and MLB doesn’t have a drug test for that, but apparently there was enough evidence to suspend him for 50 games. And the fact that he hasn’t been able to hit his way out of a way paper bag since then doesn’t really help his case of swearing innocence.
