Not surprised. Both of them have looked lost for a LONG time. I guess Clank is going to play first, Bogusevic is going to play right and Jimmy Paredes, one of the guys Wade traded Oswalt for last year is going to play third as Wade needs to prove what a great trader he is so he doesn’t get so screwed on Wandy/WB trades next month.
Jimmy is being promoted from AA where he has been playing second base – and has TWENTY errors in 93 games – and you thought CJ is bad? and he’s hitting .270/.300/.426/.726 over 385 AB.
He’s 104 fer 385, 22 doubles, 4 triples, 10 HR, 15 walks: 29 SB/10 CS.
Whatever.
You notice Ed Wade called up HIS boy – he could have called up Cody Hinze and his 1.018 OPS to play first, but he might succeed and that would interfere with Fast Eddie’s plans for that A ball guy he just got who is going to play first next year.
Brett Wallace playing first at AAA (so long Koby Clemens) is going to block Hinze, too, but it doesn’t matter because we have that A ball guy that Wade is going to call up, right?
I would guess that Bogusevic is going back down when Jordan Schafer gets off the DL. Too bad – Bogu is a very good OF and he can run, too.
I can’t believe today – I think I’ve had like 7 posts which has GOT to be a record for me over the past 7 years.

I am wondering if we will ever see Wallace or Johnson in an Astros uniform again. You have to wonder that unless Wallace is a complete head case, why this legendary hitting coach and manager could not work with him and get through it. And Wade must not think much of OkC as he goes directly to Corpus for replacements.
i would bet we won’t see wallace again
if CJ tears it up at AAA and if the AA guy sucks like jason smith, then CJ might could have a chance to get back. otherwise, no way unless downsie-doo or angel gets hurt
- i would guess that if paredes hits over 150 he’s gonna stick – just like corporan, who can’t hit neither
not that it matters – we can lose 120 games with or without them
I’m baffled by this. Completely baffled. Not that Wallace and CJ were awesome, but none of the explanations make sense.
1) Youth. So you give more playing time to Michaels and Lee? Uhhhh, okay! And they’re definitely not getting any younger at shortstop, as you already pointed out…
2) Defense. Lee at first base? No bueno. Paredes and his .918 fielding at third, where he’s just now learning to play at a double-A level? They took away playing time from CJ to give it to Downs, who is just as bad, and Sanchez who is worse. Sanchez makes CJ look like Scott Rolen. He is TERRIBLE over there. This is the team that started Sanchez and Downs as their middle infielders the other day and now they want to talk about defense. PUHLEEEZE.
3) CJ’s temper. What — because Carlos Lee and Brett Myers are so cool and collected? Funny how you don’t exactly have to be a zen master when he’s either making tons of money or a former Phillie.
4) Opportunity to learn. Kind of like they gave Paredes, Martinez and Altuve the opportunity to learn at Triple-A? How about promoting Bogusevic even though he isn’t playing that well down there? Guess he had nothing else to learn at Triple-A. He and his .270 batting average are major league ready.
Can Minute Maid Park be configured to Soccer or Football? How about a huge flea market or ice skating rink?
I have not been able to talk my little granddaughter into naming her Gerbil “Ed Wade”.
I give up. Currently trying to decide who I will follow. Leaning to the Braves but could be talked into the Cardinals.
Been an Astros fan for 30 years but this is just too horrible to contemplate.
There is nt a “plan” in place,or am I mistaken? Ed is an Idiot and this confirms that,,,uncle Drayton sure has a mess on his hands now, or as they say “Clean up on aisle 11!”….oh and I vote for the flea market re configure, and what ever did the gerbil do to be tagged with the namd “Ed Wade”?
rick,
you sound like me. my mama and her family been cards fans for a couple of generations – from before there were ML teams in texas.
ima bout to get a divorce from the astros franchise and pick another team – kind of torn between cards (LANCE!!!) and pirates (kyle mccutchen – another awesome little guy ROOLZ) and maybe braves – although it’s hard to do – because of michael bourn
i HATE wade and drayton for what they have done to this franchise. i hope they rot
AND, by the way, wonder what it means that for the past 10 days i’ve been getting spam wanting me to get blue jays jerseys (????blue jays???) – is it possible this is my friend john brattain calling me from heaven?
austin
i don’t know what else to say. you KNOW if paredes had not been one of the guys ed wade got for oswalt that there would be no WAY in holy heck he would be coming to the bigs – he was barely beginning to do OK at AA and he certainly does not have any sort of awesome record. the scouts love him because he is “athletic” but he is a second baseman, not a 3B
If I can stay with the Raiders from 1976 to present even when they were going through their annual double digit loss seasons for ten consecutive years, well then I can stomach the Astros stinking for the next few years. I haven’t been an Astros fan since 1980 to quit now on them – call me masochist if you must. But if Crane wants to satisfy me, he’s gonna have to fire Wade AND Mills after this season. (and probably the entire front office too)
Although I’ll be rooting for either the Phillies or the Cards as my secondary MLB team as I want either Berkman or Oswalt to get a WS ring.
I’ll still root for DeShaies to get at least one HoF vote which seems to be lifelong goal.
eric,
crane is the guy who wanted the payroll cut and all assets sold off – and i know clank is a lead weight. drayton didn’t fire ed wade because what happens after he leaves isn’t HIS problem and the years of suckage – well, he can go on talking about all his “work in the community” or planting trees or something
i can’t imagine that anyone good is going to agree to work for crane and his basketball guy
i’m rooting for lance, too – and bourn and pence/oswalt.
Well, I’m conveniently near San Francisco and have been out here for 30 years, so I can just root for the Giants. But I’ve been an Astros fan for 45 years so I’ll just wait until this insanity passes. It might take a new owner (not Crane, the next one) to fix it, though.
Remember, I had to live through the Spec Richardson era.
I hate this move. It makes zero sense and possibly damages some seriously budding careers in order to play some favorites/political game.
HOWEVER. I think that CJ and Wallace almost need to be thankful that they are not having to deal with this mess that is the Houston Astros right now. I fear for Paredes and the others who are being forced into this mess, but believe Wallace and CJ will be back, and sooner than many think. (I hope!)
Take some time, relax a bit, rake at AAA, and wait out the Ed Wade and Brad Mills experiment. I am not saying they WILL, but they may just be better off for it.
( I wonder what Berkman is thinking, watching all this unfold from St Louie)
“Baby” ‘Stros get their FIRST WIN!!!!!! ALTUVE!!! Becky:)
ANF,
unless paredes doesn’t hit MY weight or if he can’t field any better than matt downs, CJ will NOT be back. ed wade has too much at stake personally that paredes succeeds. CJ was purpura’s pick. wallace was finished last september and the only reason he started THIS year is because there actually was not anyone who could play there except clank and ed wade didn’t want bogusevic or bourgeois to play LF full time.
they might could be back with the team in september, but unless someone gets hurt, they won’t get any PT
berkman is probably thinking – guess it’s a good thing i DIDN’T go back. even if he had come back for 6 mill, he would have been sent packing somewheres anyhow
Pop Quiz everyone! After CJ and Wallace were optioned, how many people on the Astros 25 man roster qualify for the batting title (3.1 PA per game)?
Answer? One. Carlos Lee. And I don’t think his .270 will win it.
