6/15/11: Ed Wade Throws An Excellent Pitching Coach Out On His Ear For, Uh, Disagreements

Looks like Shawn Chacon was right.

Arnesberg, who the pitchers LIKED and wanted, was thrown out on his ear for Doug Brocail, who has never been a pitching coach at ANY level. Guess “Broakey” gonna pitch Brandon Lyon where and when Ed Wade wants him pitched.

There was a whole lot of words said about why Arnesberg is leaving, but really, it sure sounds like he strongly disagreed with SOMEthing that the FO wanted and so he got fired for insubordination.

Broakey, by the way, worked as some kind of special assistant after his shoulder finally got to Broakey to fix.

Some pitching coach.

Way to go Ed.

Lisa, I have fumed, and cussed, and been p$ssed off about this all day. I’m glad
Arnsberg is not a part of Ed Wade’s little “family”. He deserves MUCH, MUCH
better. He is one of the most well respected pitching coaches in MLB. Mills
will be next, because Ed Wade HAS to find someone to blame, for HIS idiot
moves. Which by the way, are too many to list. I have hated this man since the first day I laid eyes on him. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  2. Charlie says:

Mills sucks as bad as Wade. Arnesberg had absolutely nothing to do with this teams pathetic hitting Strikeouts, lack of plate discipline, or just absolute lack of winning attitude. This team sucks. Mills is the ass-wipe in the dugout who leaves pitchers in too long. When will the press and media wake up and see that he should be run out of town. Even his excuses and gee whiz they’re coming around press conferences suck. The press is afraid to ask this moron a hard ton the point question about any of his decisions

  3. Charlie says:

Hope Arnesberg lands with a team in the central division and beats the crap out of the Astros

  4. Charlie says:

This clown Steve Camobell never even mentions Mills in any of his columns. Now even the Chronicle sucks. That Ultimate Astros crap is not even worthy of the bottom of the kitty litter box. Damn cat would get a rash

  5. Charlie says:

And why besides Bud Norriss would any of that reported 29k to attend even want to sit through this crap on the field. God I need some Tylenol

  6. Steve says:

Bud threw a great game today. Lack of offense will destroy young pitchers because they will believe they have to be absolutely perfect to win, they will put too much pressure on every pitch, and they will not be able to execute to that level of perfection. No one can. And they won’t have the mental fortitude to take it. And so they’ll press. And they’ll lose. the ‘stros need offense to give Lyles and Norris time to mature.

    charlie,

these days, houston sports media have like ZERO interest in “investigating” anything. such as crane.

millsie-poo is still in favor with the FO so they won’t criticize him. i’ve said many times that it is tough for me to judge which decisions are his and which are marching orders from fast eddie.

i’m not exactly surprised that the team is, um, dis-spirited. with a very VERY bleak future, guys get used to losing (see pirates/royals) and stop caring/trying unless they are doing well enough to hope to get traded.

arnesberg had 1 1/2 years left on his contract and the pitchers WANTED him and he was obviously VERY good so you KNOW there MUST have been a LOT of, uh, er, “philosophical differences” between him and fast eddie

not sure exactly why all these astros fans are thinking that crane (and his lack of $$$) will come in and immediately hire andrew friedman (like he’d come here) and some grade A+ manager and sign top talent at $$$ and suddenly this team is a winner

    please

    steve

losing 1-0 sux. bud pitched GREAT. except for game 1, he’s pitched great all year. he’s still cheap so he’s prolly gonna be staying a few more years

Its not a shutout unless you go the full 9 innings, so the last 3 innings would be the bullpens part of a shutout.

This is your Houston Astros…The Astros have a history of stupidity that I am so hoping Crane stops…..Mills fell in line, and I have to think the other coach’s on staff know that Mills will NOT support them…’yes sir”, No Sir” is all your gonna hear….I am going to the game to night to watch Charlie Morton pitch cause I have him on a Fantasy team……hope the Pirates just torch Happ….pains me to say cause I was Born here, i can t option out of this division and like someone else,

Lisa – Maury Brown was just on SportsRadio 610. The whole interview was great (maybe it’s online?), but one thing he said seems to confirm what we’ve been saying for weeks: this Crane group is smoke and mirrors. Maury said that Crane’s partners are only investing money for the initial purchase, and that if the Astros need money after that, Crane has to pay 100% of it himself.

So, if true, this explains Crane’s comment in the press conference that his partners “wouldn’t be happy” with subsidizing losses during any rebuilding effort. (Technically, it might make Crane a liar, since he only said “wouldn’t be happy” and not “they’re not on the hook for cash calls.”)

What the hell did we do to deserve this?

  11. Lisa Gray says:

    ann,

what we did to deserve this was to complain for years about how bad an owner drayton mcclane was and beg for a new one. I kept saying folks might could oughtta think about that old story about the frogs who wanted a King because they weren’t wsatisfied with the Log King that the Gods had given them, so they were sent a frog eating stork to be their new king…

    i’m sorry i missed maury’s 610 interview – i’ll see if i can find a link

i had a feeling that the chron was saying nothing for a good reason – crane is a major advertizer. it doesn’t explain/excuse radio guys or the houston press

I’m starting to think my theory from a few months ago was correct: Aside from wanting maximum dollars, McLane went and found a lousy new owner who will make Uncle D look like the best owner in history and have fans begging him to come back.

Gray_Jay – Maury Brown’s two articles are alarming, to say the least. I have no clue how Crane could be seen as an acceptable MLB owner. How can MLB reject people like Mark Cuban but then approve a guy with Crane’s skeletons? We’re not talking about some isolated scandal. We’ve got racism, sexism, discrimination, allegations of corporate malfeasance, multiple cases of war profiteering, and a divorce that made the McCourts’ seem pleasant. And who knows what else is out there.

The only people who’ve talked about Crane in any depth are a few of us here, Maury Brown, and Richard Sandomir from the N.Y. Times. Brown and Sandomir are both 1,500 miles from Houston, so it’s not like they have dozens of local sources like the local media should have about a local like Crane. The whole thing stinks to the heavens. The Chron is a joke and the Houston Press has been oddly AWOL. (And forget about MLB.com, which ran a fluff piece today about “better time ahead.” Is Brian McTaggart on crack? Jordan Lyles and Jim Crane = a “bright future”?)
