8/28/05 – Clemens vs Weaver And The Dodgers

When I was a kid, I remember an All-Star Game where Tom Glavine started and gave up like 7 runs in the first inning. Seems like whatever he threw up there, they hit. And at least Glavine didn’t walk anyone (that I remember – no I’m not gonna look it up, too disgusted)

So here’s the first inning – 5 H, 3 BB, 5 ER; triple, RBI single, RBI double, BB, RBI BB, RBI single (this is SIX guys on base without an out – I think this is a record for Roy and I AM gonna look this one up – yep, I can’t find a first inning like this for him before…) FINALLY a FO, BB, K, FC.

10 batters in JUST the first inning. He looked as bad as he did at Atlanta when he was sick as a dog – at least he had an excuse there… Roy had 3 quick innings without any walks and just 1 hit, then he started serving up fat ones and he got pulled for Chad Harville – his FIRST start this year where he didn’t even last the 5 innings.

Phil, the guy is tired. Or hurting. You MIGHT could want to rethink this not giving your guns an extra day of rest. Remember you got a BAD reputation of overworking your starters and shredding arms and we’re treading water in the standings here… How terrible could it be to let the guys get some rest?????

The good news is that Wandy and Astacio each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
The best news is that Chris Burke hit a 3 run HR so we didn’t get shut out again. That’s getting old.

Today, it’s Roger Clemens, RHP vs : Jeff Weaver, RHP

Roger this year: 11 – 6 in 26 GS with 1 CG – 8 HR, 47 BB, 162 K over 178.1 IP with a 1.56 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a .187 BAA
vs.LA: 0 – 1 in 1 GS – 1 HR, 2BB, 4 H, 3 ER, 8K over 7 IP (at LA)

Jeff Weaver, RHP :
this year: 12 – 8 in 27 GS with 1 CG SO – 27 HR, 36 BB, 116 K over 173.1 IP with a 4.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a .265 BAA
- reasonably decent K/9 IP, almost 4:1 K:BB and too many HR, as well as not enough run support…
vs. HOU: 1 – 3 in 4 GS – 4 HR, 7 BB, 12 K over 25.2 IP with a 4.91 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a .279 BAA
He lost in his game against us July 9, giving up 3 ER over 6 IP.

  1. Astro Annie says:

I notice that several of those guys didn’t collect a hit off Rocket. That has got to be a good sign. I’m afraid, though, that maybe you didn’t post the Astros against Weaver because it looked ghastly. Please tell me I’m wrong.

  2. Jared Buck says:

Well, once again, the Astros failed to score any runs for Rocket. What are they expecting him to do, put up all the offense himself? It seems like every time Roger goes out, the team gets shutout and they lose by 1-0.

    hi annie!!!
they managed TWO hits off roger.
sorry i forgot to paste the table of astros vs weaver. he ain’t nothin to write home about…
    and jared,
roger has a ND in SIX games where he gave up zero runs, earned or not. ridiculous. and we’ve lost 4 of those games.
    poor guy.
