8/26/05 – Pettitte vs Derek Lowe

Right now, we’re 1/2 game behind Philly in the WC race. We off to face the Dodgers, who are 10 games behind in the WC, but second in the NL Worst at 57-68. If we can’t hit Lowe, Jackson or Weaver, none of whom are in the top 25 list of the NL pitchers when we’re throwing aces against the Dodgers, then we might as well pack it in.

Phil has announced that because the team had an off day that Wandy is gonna get skipped so that Andy, Roy and Roger will start on their usual day. Like they don’t need an extra day of rest, especially Roy, who is second in the NL in innings pitched, because Real Men don’t need no extra rest before the post season we trying to make. Like Roger wasn’t tired the last day of the NLCS,

Heck no.

I haven’t criticized Phil in quite a while, because except for a few in game mistakes, I don’t think he’s done anything really dumb. But this IS.

And Wandy gonna get skipped TWICE, not Astacio. I STILL have not figgered why Phil so in love with Astacio. Absolutely NOTHING Astacio has done this year has made me think he is anything better than a 5th starter/ long man at BEST. Sigh. Maybe…
Anyone here know if an extra day of rest is BAD for any starter not named Pedro?

    Phil’s probably thinking that Rodriguez has the highest ERA in the rotation at 6.23. I’m sure his reasoning is that he doesn’t want to lose anymore ground right now so throw Clemens, Oswalt, Pettitte out there everyday then pray for rain instead of Astacio.
    It’s still August, Phil.

    i WOULD think that except that i been listening all freaking year to phil saying how wonderful astacio is over and over and over. he was REAL reluctant to send him down to AAA earlier this year when it was obvious to ANYONE that astacio couldn’t cut it.
    phil do NOT understand that you hafta keep some of your strength if you gonna compete in october. the good thing is that brandon backe WILL be rested. HOPEFULLY astacio will not be pitching any meaningful or important games
