Lance Berkman Announces His Presence With Authority And Sends His 7th Career Grand Slam Over The RF Bullpen

Well glory be!!!

This is the hardest I saw Lance hit a baseball all year – he turned on a Andrew Cashner 95 MPH FB and absolutely rocketed that ball out of the park. I almost fell over. He had struck out earlier with men on first and 3rd with 2 out and I wasn’t expecting miracles with bases loaded, 2 out – not that there had to be any miracles, as Angel Sanchez had driven in a run to break up the 0-0 tie and Pence added a security run immediately after.

Every time I think that Lance is going to start hitting again, I’ve been wrong. I hope this is the beginning of something good, instead of one of those dying gasps. I’ve been most unhappy about Lance not being able to hit a ball much further than the Crawford Boxes and had decided that he was simply played out. Man, I HOPE I’m wrong…

EDIT: looked at the replay again and I originally thought the ball went into the Restaurant just in front of the rightmost edge of the Budweiser sign, but I was wrong. And the 7 career grannys include the 2 he’s hit in the playoffs.

Jim Deshaies has been talking a lot on the broadcast about how Lance hasn’t been able to use his legs much in his swing because of the knee surgery, and that might be part of why his bat speed is so bad this year.

  2. Neil Sorens says:

I’m not as down on Berkman. I think he’ll have a good August and September, maybe .280/.380/.450, although he won’t see much to hit if he stays low in the batting order. He’s still getting on base at a pretty good clip, with a BB every 7 PA or so.

i asked one of the guys who does video to look at lance’s swing – he says he doesn’t see much of any change since 08

and the getting on base part is good – trouble is that he is supposed to be driving in runs as the #3 guy and trouble is that clank is sucking mucho and has been kept in the 4 hole. it would be great if CJ was put in the 4 hole, pence in the 5 hole and clank further down

  4. Neil Sorens says:

Yeah…move Lee on down to the 10 hole.

  5. Neil Sorens says:

Berkman makes me look smart today, and Lee makes me look dumb. Such is baseball.

omg a trade of Roy for Happ and Singleton would be so AWESOME. Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please get this done — FIND A WAY TO GET IT DONE.

  7. Jared Buck says:

Roy got traded to the Phillies for J.A. Happ and a pair of minor leaguers. I wish him luck in Philly, he will get more run support there than he did in Houston.

  8. Steve says:

Darn, I was hoping for Singleton. We could have used a new masher at 1b.

  9. Steve says:

I see, we get Wallace. But he’s way down this year. Hmmm.

BTW, if we don’t trade Myers now while his stock is high, that’s a huge mistake. He will not get any better this year, and he will not perform as well next year as he is doing now. It’s a mistake to keep him when we could probably get two or three young prospects.

Too bad we don’t seem to be able to get a prospect or two for Lance, either.

fast eddie is in LUUUUUVVVV with all the guys he ever drafted/played for the phils and is trying to get them all back

i hear tell he wants to get myers to sign a long term deal – what an idiot. he can’t believe a lifetime of work, just the past 3 months.

fast eddie has no idea what “sell high” means and drayton is even dumber

lance has very little value, unfortunately

i know that wallace was once a top prospect – but every Organization that gets him trades him off within 6 months. we are his FOURTH organization
