Briefly,
Tim Purpura said on the record in the Chronicle today that Biggio will NOT be a super sub, but will play full time either at second (too bad for “superprospect” Chris Burke, hunh) or in the OF (too bad for Astros fans.) Might could this have had anything to do with Gerry Hunsicker, uh, um, “resigning”?
The rumors that we trying to obtain Jose Cruz, Jr, from the DRays will not die. He’s a heck of a lot better fielder than Biggio, fer sher, but there hasta be a reason that teams keep getting rid of him….
Next,
as yall know, the Angels have signed 40 year old Steve Finley to play center for 2 years, so they are NOT in the market for Carlos Beltran. Which, as far as I can tell, means that it is us, the Yankees and the Cubs (if they can toss Sammy in someone else’s trash can.) I still don’t think George, or anyone else, is gonna give Carlos 10 years. So we’ll hafta see…..
I am not feeling real too positive about us being serious about signing Carlos – I think the game plan is to pretend to try, then let George grab him, say he cost too much money and George has more, just use Cruz (or some other cheapo guy like Burnitz) in right, and a combo (shudder) of Lance, Biggio and Taveras. McLean is seriously underestimating how angry the fans are gonna be with that strategy, ESPECIALLY with the newly increased ticket prices….

Biggio starting dosen’t bother me as much if he is at second. He produced offensivly last season, and Burke could use more time at the big league level. Biggio in the outfield, and I have a different opinion. As for Beltran. With the Angels out, and the Yankees need of pitching, I feel that his offers will be comparable from all teams interested. So it will come down to where he wants to play. No way he gets 10 yrs. Avantage Stros. Optimistic views, I know, but it is to early to be angry. We just need to wait to see how this plays out.
Lisa, trust me, you do *not* want Jose Cruz Jr. He’s a strike out machine.
Damn it Lisa, why do you hate on Biggio so much? He’s my favorite player EVERRRRR! He is the one who got me and many many many others to be Astros fans.
Personally, on my list of things I would love to see as an Astros’ fan, Biggio getting his 300th hit in an Astros’ uniform is 2nd only behind the Astros winning a World Series. Then third is Biggio getting in the hall of fame.
Him starting this year at 2nd would give Burke time to develop into an immediate star for 2006 and let biggio get a lot closer to that 3000 mark. It would also insult bidge not to start him this year.
I also think Beltran and Berkman, not to mention Baggs, would want biggio on the team as long as possible, and him starting probably just adds another year on.
I think Biggio has more than 300 hits for the Astros.
hi yall!!!
i guess scott boras is trying to pressure the yankees into 10/200. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaha
good luck, boy
no you’re nevah gonna get it
no NOT this time
nevah nevah gonna get it
NOOOOOOOOOOO
nevah nevah gonna get it
so either it will be like maddux, millwood, or carlos will sign something reasonable.
as for biggio -
michael, your comment is interesting
you prove that a lot of fans want to see their favorite player, even if he isn’t what he used to be and there might could be a better and cheaper option.
it would “insult” biggio not to start him? what an interesting choice of words. why wouldn’t it be “insulting” the fans not to start the player who has the best chance of helping the team win?????!!!!!
