I spent over an hour writing this entry, but accidentally deleted it and am too tired to re-write the entire thing.
I’m still in shock that Mike freaking Hampton outpitched Matt Cain.
Tomorrow, it’s Felipe Paulino vs Jonathan Sanchez.
Not that I am expecting miracles for 2 days straight…

It was a very good game tonight. Mike pitched very well, one ER over 6 innings. Go Astros.
Not to be a downer, but he didn’t outpitch the Giants. The Giants flat-out beat themselves. Hampton gave up 8 hits and 2 walks AND one other guy reached on an error in only 6 innings, and they mustered only 2 runs (1 earned). They went a very Astros-like 2-for-10 with RISP and stranded 10 baserunners.
I hope miracles can happen two nights in a row. But I doubt it.
It won’t exactly be a miracle, as Sanchez is still not that great of a pitcher. The no-hitter is probabl making him seem better than he really is. Paulino has been awful so far this year, but he has had a couple good starts.
Now if this was Paulino vs Lincecum, then we would need a USA-USSR 1980 type miracle to pull that one out.
As i wrote before i stupidly pressed the wrong thing, mike did NOT have exactly “good” stuff, but he fought like a cornered rat, managing to escape serious trouble in every inning but the 4th and 5th. I thought the 6th was gonna blow open, especially after cooper had him IBB winn, who hits like jason michaels batting righty, but cain couldn’t get the squeeze down and velez couldn’t manage to hit strike 3.
Well, darn, Lisa. All last night after the game I was looking forward to your fulminations today about “defensive replacement” Jason Michaels.
Michaels should be replaced no matter how defensive Cooper is.
Lisa – I wanted to congratulate you on your Wandy winning NL pitcher of the month. Above all you have held steadfast support for the Wandster when most of us were waffling and moaning about his home/road splits and for that you are rewarded as well. It was much deserving award for him even though I thought they were going to give it to Cain or Lincecum. Hip Hip Horray for the Wandy.
BTW – How bout that Jason Michaels. Geeeezzzzusss – Cooper will put him in again tonight given the chance.
And he got the chance . . . let’s give Jason some ABs in a blowout . . . see if he can do anything but strike out with a guy in scoring position.
Michaels is toast here, but someone will pick him up off the scrap heap eventually and he will help them win the playoffs (see Preston Wilson).
preston was reggie freaking jackson next to michaels. and agree with you about pulling regulars in a blowout
