Well friends and fellow Astros fans,
the Astros are now 1-8-1 or is it 1-9-1 (who cares) and are getting thrashed by scores of 12-0, 13-0, 11-4 by the likes of Bucs and Nats. No starting pitcher has looked really sharp, unfortunately. And Ida wanna hear about how pitchers aren’t expected to be sharp because the OTHER teams’ pitchers have been shutting Astros bats down.
I hear, of course, that the reason is that Oswalt, Lee and Tejada aren’t here, but that is no explanation for getting blown out by 7-12 runs. The only guys STILL tearing the cover offn the ball are John Gall, who won’t make the team (because of Jason Michaels), and Chris Johnson, who ALSO won’t make the team because Aaron Boone’s 750K is guaranteed and McLane wants a veteran at third.
No catcher is hitting MY weight. Yes, Palmisano got his first hit yesterday – whoopie doo. Which reminds me - I very seriously doubt that McLane will agree to sign Ivan Rodriguez, even for 1.5 mill. It isn’t just that his agent is Boras, but for some reason, the other teams are avoiding him like poison. I would guess there is a steroid scandal brewing. Not that it really matters (see any player who is not Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod) unless it turns out that Pudge was a distributor.
And I know he’s been getting his hits vs lousy teams in the WBC, but none of our catchers have been doing even that.
I know that we are supposed to have this great bullpen – but it won’t matter a darn if the starters all stink it up AND the hitters don’t give run support.
